Question | What is my Account Standing? |
---|---|
Answer | IntroductionThe "Account Standing" is a tab on your profile which can only be viewed by you and by staff members. This tab indicates your current overall account standing and a list of formal warnings you have ever received (along with their punitive actions, explanation, and a link to the Private Topic if applicable). Account Standing ClassificationsYour Account Standing is classified in one of six categories which will appear on your profile's Account Standing tab:
Does My Standing Improve Over Time? Not usually. The two exceptions to this are the Probation and Restricted categories; once you no-longer are restricted or no-longer in probation, you will typically go back to the 'at risk' category and stay there (unless you were in the 'danger' category in which case you stay there). We expect all members to follow the rules from the very start. So there are no rewards / decays for good behavior to make up for previous bad behavior. What Causes Me to Drop a Category?

Question | I am offended by something someone said. What can I do? |
---|---|
Answer | If you made the personal choice to be offended by something someone said, and they were not directly targeting or cyberbullying you, then you should question yourself and ask why what they said made you uncomfortable. While Midwest Nudists wants all members to be respectful of each other, we also do not want to condone censorship beyond what is necessary. Members are encouraged to try respectfully working out their personal conflicts themselves (or blocking / ignoring each other and moving on if they cannot). However, if they were directly targeting or cyberbullying you, or if what they said was making multiple people uncomfortable, you should report it to staff using the report links so they may review and potentially intervene. If you cannot use the report links, then take URLs and screenshots and send them via the contact us form under Help > Contact Us, or email [email protected] . Here are a few examples to help determine when something probably should versus probably should not be reported to staff:

Question | I didn't mean to break the rules. Can you go easier on me or appeal my warning? |
---|---|
Answer | No; ignorance is no excuse. Midwest Nudists expects that everyone read the rules / Terms and Conditions in full when joining the site. If you do not agree with them, then you should not use the site (though you can express your disagreements and counter-proposals respectfully in a Support Ticket or [email protected]). If you are unclear about something, you should ask the staff for clarification immediately. When you created your account, you indicated that you read and agree to the rules and Terms in full (you had to or the site would not let you register an account). As such, you are responsible for any / all rules that you violate whether you did so knowingly or not. Again, please do ask questions if you are unsure about something. And please let us know if you believe there is a better solution to something than what we are taking according to our rules or Terms. While the staff have a duty to keep the site safe, they are also here to help you. |
Question | Why does Midwest Nudists condemn discrimination based on relationship status (even if for safety)? |
---|---|
Answer | Midwest Nudists does not allow discrimination of any kind based on a protected class. We also do not condone discrimination based on relationship status, even if it's a matter of safety (but we do not strictly enforce it as relationship status is not a protected class). A prime example of this is venues or clubs excluding single men from membership or participation. While we understand the safety concerns surrounding why an entity may choose to discriminate based on relationship status, we believe this is a very toxic and bandage solution to a bigger problem. There are numerous issues with banning people from nudist activities based on their relationship status. Here are a few:
While not explicitly against the rules to submit / promote entities which discriminate based on relationship status, Midwest Nudists discourages you from doing so. Instead, please bring this matter up with the entity and see if they are open and willing to re-consider their approach to safety. Do remember that entities who discriminate based on a protected class will likely be rejected from promotion on Midwest Nudists; such is a violation of our Terms of Use. "Men only" or "women only" groups may be allowed providing they are not "men only" or "women only" for prejudiced reasons against other genders. |

Question | Do you comply with data protection laws / can I download or purge my data? |
---|---|
Answer | Yes. Midwest Nudists has tools you can utilize to download or purge most of your data. These can be found in your member profile. Go to your profile > Edit > Personal data. On this page, you can select categories of data to download or purge. You can then specify if you wish to download the data or purge it. When purging data, the data is either deleted or anonymised ("anonymised" means that the data cannot be traced back to you; all personally identifiable information about you [member ID, username, e-mail address, and IP addresses] are scrubbed from every applicable record). Note that not everything can be purged. This is explained in the tooltips / help icon next to each category. There is a limit to how often you can download or delete your personal data as indicated on that page. This is because downloading or purging of personal data puts a heavy load on the web server. The limit ensures the server can continue functioning properly. You can request more specific data to be downloaded or purged by contacting the staff (open up a Support Ticket). You can also purge [almost] all your data upon deleting your account on the "Delete" tab. |

Question | Do you have word filters or auto-moderation in place? |
---|---|
Answer | We only have a very conservative (small) list of words which, when used, will result in submissions getting blocked. These words are widely considered as extremely / patently offensive in almost all use cases and contexts with little to no discretion. Therefore, there should be no confusion. We generally do not believe in using word filters or auto-moderation for the following reasons:
Granted, this does not mean you can say whatever you want on Midwest Nudists. We still have clearly-outlined rules of conduct. And violating the rules will result in punitive actions / warnings. Remember, freedom of speech does not apply to the internet; platforms have the right to moderate as they see fit for their interests and mission. But we also do not take moderation to the overly-censoring extreme. |
Question | How long must the description be when adding gallery entries? |
---|---|
Answer | We impose a requirement of at least 128 characters of text for the "description" field when adding or editing an image or video in a gallery. This is because we want to prevent members from simply spamming the website with pictures of themselves. We want members to provide some context for their gallery entries, such as a description of what's going on in the photo, who took it, where it was taken, the story behind the photo, fun facts, etc. By providing context to an image, not only can those using assisted technologies understand what the photo is, but more value is shared with the community. We do not enforce this as a rule in the Terms and Conditions; the website software will physically prevent anyone from submitting or editing an entry if the description does not have at least 128 characters of text. |
Question | Is Midwest Nudists bound by the Social Media Parental Notification Act of Ohio? |
---|---|
Answer | Yes. Midwest Nudists is an Ohio-based social media website. As such, we must comply with this new 2024 law. We believe we are in compliance due to the following regulations and systems we have put in place:
You can read more about the law here: https://governor.ohio.gov/administration/lt-governor/071123 |

Question | What is escrowing points? |
---|---|
Answer | IntroductionYou can use your points balance as a virtual currency with other members for goods or services. Our "escrow" system allows for a trusted system to exchange these points. When a member "escrows" points to another member, those points get held by a third party (in this case, Midwest Nudists) until both members indicate the stated agreement terms have been met. Once both members mark the agreement has been satisfied, the points will be released and sent to the escrowed member. If the agreement has not been met, one of the members can "dispute" the escrow, resulting in the escrow being raised to the Midwest Nudists staff for intervention. Creating an EscrowLet's say, for example, you want to exchange points with another member in exchange for a piece of art they will make for you. Here is what you would do:
After Creating the EscrowWhen you create the escrow, your points are deducted from your balance and held by Midwest Nudists. An escrow transaction is created between you and the other member... and the other member is notified of it. Both of you can view the escrow at any time through the link provided, and take action. When you deem that the other member has satisfied their portion of the agreement, you will mark the escrow as satisfied. Once both you and the other member mark it as satisfied, then the other member will receive your points, and the escrow will be closed. Disputing an EscrowIf the other member is not cooperating with their portion of the agreement, or you wish to refund the escrow or have the agreements changed, you can dispute it from the escrow screen. You will be prompted to explain your dispute so staff can get a better picture of what happened. When either member disputes the escrow, it enters "dispute" state, meaning no more actions can be taken on the escrow until the staff review the dispute and resolve it. Resolution can come in the form of one of three actions:

Question | What is voting power? |
---|---|
Answer | You might have noticed "Voting power" on your profile's points tab. Some polls in the forum are weighted, meaning that when members vote on the poll, the amount of influence they have on the poll results depends on their voting power relative to the voting powers of all the other members who voted. In short, the more voting power you have, the more you influence the poll results with your vote. Voting power is based on the number of points you have. This means that as you contribute content and engage with the community, you earn points, which therefore increase your voting power. Voting power is exponential, meaning as your points increase, your voting power will increase at a slower and slower pace. This is to ensure anyone with a huge amount of points do not completely overshadow the votes of those with much less points. The maximum possible voting power is 10, which is achieved at about 94,000 points. Often, polls specific to making decisions for the website will be weighted based on voting power. This means those who contributed and engaged more with the community will have a bigger say in the decisions for the website. Note: in the future, voting power will be based on life-time points rather than your points balance. That way, spending points will not have a negative impact on your voting power. |

Appeal Decisions Are FinalOnce the staff return to your appeal request with a decision, the decision is final. You cannot make any more appeal requests for that warning / violation.
