Summary

We balance the decision making power between members and staff

Members can report anything that violates the rules or not in the spirit of nudism

Members can vote on decisions (such as changes to rules / features / staff members)

The more a member contributed in content to the site, the more voting power they have

We also have a karma system so members can understand who is most reputable / established in the community

Description

Midwest Nudists holds a balance between staff leadership and member leadership to help prevent abuse of power on either side. Here are some examples of how we do this:

  • Members can report anything in violation of the rules for staff to review. If multiple reports are received, the content is hidden automatically. Ultimately, staff decide on the discipline (but there is an appeal policy, and any discipline can be appealed within 72 hours if it was unjust).
  • When staff wish to change something fundamental about the site, such as a rule or the mission/vision, it is left up to a community vote in the forums.
  • Members can also vote in or vote out staff members.
  • Members have voting power; the more a member contributed to the site in content and activity, the more voting power they have. This means they have a bigger influence when they vote on something.
  • Every member has karma (crowdsourced reputation), which is publicly visible. Karma is influenced by how other members interact with them (e.g. giving ratings, points, virtual gifts, awards, and so on) and by their disciplinary record. This allows members to see (roughly) who is most trusted in the community.
